The park is bordered to the south by the renowned Selous Game Reserve, while the Uluguru Mountains and the Udzungwa Mountains are on the other side. 3 Days Tanzania safari from Zanzibar Itinerary
Fly from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam, Transfer to Mikumi
Today morning you will catch a flight from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam, in the mainland Tanzania; a 20-30 minutes flight. You will be met on arrival by your safari guide who will help you in loading your luggage into your private 4×4 safari jeep and you embark on your long drive you to Mikumi National Park which is located approximately 280 kilometers from Dar. The 5 to 6 hours’ drive along the highway that connects from Dar to the park gate will take you through Morogoro and the beautiful countryside all the way to Mikumi. You will have lunch along the way, and once inside the park, you will start your first game drive right away. This afternoon you expect to see many wild animals such; as elands, giraffes, wildebeests, elephants, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, various antelopes as well as impalas. Later on you will proceed to your overnight accommodation, check-in, freshen up and have dinner. Overnight at Camp Bastian.

The second day of your 3 Days affordable safari from Zanzibar, you will rise up very early in the morning, have breakfast. You will then set out for a game drive in the well-kept wilderness of Mikumi National Park. Mikumi is part of the larger Selous Ecosystem which together with the neighboring Selous Game Reserve harbor a remarkable numbers of bird species and wild animals. So this entire day is dedicated to game viewing and your guide who is very knowledgeable about the animals in this park will drive you to areas that will offer you best game views. He will make numerous stops to enable you take as many photographs as you want.
The park covers an area of 3230 square kilometers which makes it one of the largest national parks in Tanzania, and it has a variety of wildlife habitats which include the seasonal floodplains, the grassland which are scattered with giant baobab trees and thorny trees (these are very similar to those in the Serengeti), Miombo woodlands, swamps, riverine forests and low hills.. As you explore its wilderness, some of the animals you will see include elephants, hartebeests, buffalos, kudus, zebras, elands, wildebeests and impalas. Hyenas, baboons, lions, wild dogs, giraffes, warthogs and hippos are the other animals you can always look out for. Mikumi National Park is a great birding spot as well; with over 300 bird species recorded within this park, you will definitely be able to see a number of them. You expect to spot birds like the straw-tailed whydahs, yellow-throated longclaws, Boehm’s bee-eaters, African fish eagles, lilac-breasted rollers, starlings, Bateleur eagles and Dickinson’s kestrels.
