This 10 Days Selous Safari & Zanzibar beach package offers you a combination of game viewing and beach holiday experience. During which you will explore the vast Nyerere National Park, a newly gazetted national from the former ‘Selous Game Reserve’ and then spend days relaxing on the white sand beaches of the Zanzibar.
You will have guided game drives on a 4×4 safari jeep on off-the-beaten tracks of the Nyerere National Park, bush walks guided by an armed ranger as well as an afternoon boat ride on the River Rufiji. Night game drives are also allowed in this park in Southern Tanzania, but we haven’t included any in this package and pricing. Our Southern Tanzania safari experts can arrange and include a night game drive if you are interested, but preferably it should be arranged in advance.
10 Days Selous Safari Nyerere National Park – Brief itinerary
The 10 days safari adventure with beach vacation extension in Zanzibar will be as per the below outlined itinerary;
Day 1: Transfer from Dar es salaam to Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous). Afternoon boat safari.
Day 2: Explore the Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve) by 4×4 safari jeeps.
Day 3: Spend a full day safari in Nyerere National Park.
Day 4: A third full day safari in Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve).
Day 5: Morning walking safari in Selous, take a flight to Zanzibar Island.
Days 6 – 9: Spend the days at leisure in the Zanzibar Island.
Day 10: Transfer to the airport for departure from Zanzibar

10 Days Selous Safari NYerere National Park -Brief itinerary
During these you will see various animals including; Elephants, giraffes, elands hyenas, buffaloes, impalas, wildebeests, leopards, lions, the endangered African wild dogs as well as baboons. Nyerere National Park and the greater Selous Ecosystem is also a birders haven. The area has recorded more than 440 bird species , and therefore a great place for birding. Some of the bird species that can be spotted on this safari will be as below; Lilac-breasted rollers, Crested Lark, African Snipe, Green-headed Oriole, Bateleur Eagles, Kingfishers, Knob-billed Duck, Egyptian Geese, Herons, white fronted bee eaters, yellow-billed storks, Southern Ground Hornbill, and Malachite Kingfishers.
You will then fly to the exotic Zanzibar islands where you will be able to relax on the idyll white sand beaches with numerous palm trees. You will take park in kite surfing, diving, hiking, mountain biking and snorkeling to explore the beautiful coral reefs. There are also very exciting walks in the mangrove forests, to the local villages, visits to Stone town as well as tours of the spice plantations.

10 days Selous safari & Zanzibar beach – Itinerary
Transfer to Selous National Park
Pick up from your hotel or at the airport in Dar es Salaam by your safari who will transfer you to Nyerere National Park which is a newpark gazetted from the larger area of what used to be the vast Selous Game Reserve. You will arrive around lunch time, so you will head straight to your lodge / camp for lunch and then take a short rest. After lunch and rest you will be taken to the banks of the famous Rufiji River, where you will embark on a afternoon boat safari that will go on until sunset. You expect to spot birds and animals like hippos, and nile crocodiles as well as other animals like elephants drinking or crossing the river. Later in the afternoon you will be taken back to your lodge / camp where you will freshen up before settling for your dinner and overnight.
Overnight will be at the Selous Kinga Lodge. Lunch & Dinner included.
Explore the Selous Game Reserve
Through the next three of days, you will spend time exploring Nyerere National Park which covers an area of approximately 30,893 sq km close to twice the size of Serengeti National Park, making it the largest national park on the African continent. The Selous Game Reserve (now Nyerere National Park) which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprises of various vegetations, from large plains, forests, rivers and lakes all of which serve as wildlife habitats.
During the game drives you will explore all these habitats as you search for Africa’s Big Five animals and the other different wild animals that live here among which are: lions, zebras, elands, impalas, buffalos, bushbucks, elephants, oryxs, crocodiles, waterbucks, hippos, sable antelopes, klipspringers, duikers, giraffes, greater kudus, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, as well as the occasional leopards and spotted hyenas, not forgetting the largest thriving population of the endangered wild dogs. Rhinos on the other hand, can only be seen within the southern part of the game reserve. There will be great opportunities for photography.
Those of you enthusiastic about bird watching, well the Selous will not disappoint you at all. There are very many bird species found here some living within the forest, the river banks as well as in the swampy areas.
Apart from the traditional safari game drives on a 4×4 safari jeep with pop up roof or open sided, you will also do one walking safari at Selous. Other activities like night game drives can be arranged at an extra cost. You may request during the confirmation of your safari or book spontaneously at the lodge. The earlier you book the better.

On arrival at Zanzibar, you will be warmly received by our Safari Desire Representative, who will help you in loading your luggage in the van, before transferring you to the beach. On arrival you will check in at your hotel where you will spend the next 5 nights.

The Zanzibar island has very lovely white sand beaches with clear waters as well as colorful reefs which not only make it the best beach holiday destination in Tanzania, but also the perfect honeymoon getaway destination. Some of the best beaches on the island include The Bwejuu found on the south-eastern side, Michamvi a peninsular on the east coast, Matemwe on the northeastern coast as well as Nungwi on the north-west coast. You may choose to relax under the numerous palms that dot the white sand beach, choose to take part in the more active adventures such as: sea kayaking, mountain biking, sailing, hiking, kite surfing, bird watching and windsurfing.
